A night at the opera.

It was the last night of our China tour and we were off to the Beijing Opera.

Prior to the performance I was given the chance to go backstage and see some of the cast putting on their make-up. It was too good an opportunity to miss and a chance to take a few portraits.

So what about the performance. It was nothing like traditional western opera. More a mixture of acrobatics, music and dance. Some of the music was hard on the Western ear. Apparently there was a storyline, something to do with a Princess and a pearl, but I hadn’t a clue what was going on.

However I did manage to take a few pictures. I was sitting far back and not allowed to use flash so I could not get a fast shutter speed but they give an impression of the colour.

My favourite is one of an acrobat spinning. It is just a blur. A bit like my recollection of the night.

My aim is to create a photo diary of my walks and my travels. I have two main hobbies, walking and photography and these complement each other. I am a senior citizen, what used to be called an old age pensioner, but I don't feel old. Since retirement I have had more time to pursue my hobbies and the opportunity to travel more. My philosophy now is - Do what you can, while you can. My other interests are fine wines and keeping fit. These may not complement each other but keep me happy.
