Saying farewell to the queen.

Monday 25th May 2015

This afternoon Jean and I went down to Crosby beach to bid farewell to the Queen Mary 2 as she left Liverpool to sail along the Mersey.

The three Queens, the Queen Mary 2, the Queen Victoria and the Queen Elizabeth were in Liverpool to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the launch of the Cunard line.

The Queen Mary 2 was the first to arrive and sailed in yesterday morning.

The Queen Elizabeth sailed in from Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands and the Queen Victoria arrived from Guernsey. At noon the three ships performed a ‘river dance’ in front of the Cunard building.

The Queen Mary left Liverpool just after 2.00pm with a salute from fire hoses.

Hundreds of people were lining the beach to watch her sail by.

Even the Iron Men made an effort to get dressed up for the occasion.

It had been a great occasion. The Mersey may not be the same beautiful colour as the sea at Puerto Soller but it is nice to be home.

Tonight there will be a firework display on the waterfront in Liverpool in front of the Three Graces. Following this the Queen Elizabeth will leave the city.

About crosbyman66

My aim is to create a photo diary of my walks and my travels. I have two main hobbies, walking and photography and these complement each other. I am a senior citizen, what used to be called an old age pensioner, but I don't feel old. Since retirement I have had more time to pursue my hobbies and the opportunity to travel more. My philosophy now is - Do what you can, while you can. My other interests are fine wines and keeping fit. These may not complement each other but keep me happy.
