Alaro to Cuber

Friday 21st October 2011.

Once again I walked with Barbara. There were 19 of us in the group, of which 16 were German with just three English.

We started our walk from just outside the village of Alaro and walked along a lane and then a track passing between the mountains of Puig d’Alaro and Puig de s’Alcadena. We reached the magnificent Solleric finca and then continued up the fertile Solleric valley. It was the first time I had been there although I have often viewed the valley from the ascent of Rateta and the summit of L’Ofre. The Solleric estate was famous for producing some of the best olive oil in Mallorca.

We continued up the valley to reach the refuge at Tossals Verds where we stopped for lunch. It is possible to arrange accommodation here if you are walking the full length of the GR 221.

We now followed the official route of the GR 221 round the base of the Puig des Tossals Verds. Looking across the valley there was a fine view of Manacor des Valle and the archways of the aqueduct of the Canaleta de Massanella.

Passing the Coll d’es Coloms ( Pigeon Pass) we descended to the open concrete canal that normally feeds Cuber with the overflow from the reservoir at Gorg Blau. Today, no water was flowing as the level of both reservoirs were very low. We followed the canal back to the Font des Noguer where we boarded our coach for the ride back to Port de Soller.

15 km.

About crosbyman66

My aim is to create a photo diary of my walks and my travels. I have two main hobbies, walking and photography and these complement each other. I am a senior citizen, what used to be called an old age pensioner, but I don't feel old. Since retirement I have had more time to pursue my hobbies and the opportunity to travel more. My philosophy now is - Do what you can, while you can. My other interests are fine wines and keeping fit. These may not complement each other but keep me happy.
