Greenway del lago di Como. part 2

We caught the “little train” out to Lenno to begin the second half of the Greenway del lago di Como walk. We walked along the lakeside for a few hundred yards to cross the bridge over the Pola torrent. Passing the hotel S Giorgio, we headed away from the lake and after crossing the main road we started to climb up the cobbled lane leading to the village of Mezzegra.

We needed to pause to catch our breath and to admire the views over the lake. We passed a meadow full of wild flowers which were attracting lots of butterflies.

We passed the Chiesetta di S Giuseppe and then entered Bonzanigo to reach the larger church, the Chiesa di Abbondio. From the square opposite the church there was a wonderful view of the lake and the Bellagio promontory. The walk through the narrow streets of Bonzanigo was interesting with old lamps, doorways and frescoes competing for our attention.

Reaching the Palazzo Rosati we turned right to cross the Torrent Bolvedro and descend to the lake at Bolvedro. We walked along the lakeside pausing to look at the impressive Villa La Quiete.

Next came the Chiesa Di S. Lorenzo and the Villa Mayer park, a lovely section that took us away from the busy road.

Leaving the park we passed under the arches of the La Darsena hotel to re-join the road and stroll to the pier at Tremezzo. We were nearly home. The final few hundred yards were along the lakeside path but were full of interest, passing the Villa Carlotta and the Grand Hotel Cadenabbia before reaching our hotel, the Britannia Excelsior.

This is a beautiful walk and one to take your time over. It is well signposted and deserves more publicity.

About crosbyman66

My aim is to create a photo diary of my walks and my travels. I have two main hobbies, walking and photography and these complement each other. I am a senior citizen, what used to be called an old age pensioner, but I don't feel old. Since retirement I have had more time to pursue my hobbies and the opportunity to travel more. My philosophy now is - Do what you can, while you can. My other interests are fine wines and keeping fit. These may not complement each other but keep me happy.
